The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) yesterday released two soldiers it seized in Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

Pfcs. Niño Alavaro and Marjon Anover were turned over to Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in an undisclosed area in Compostela Valley.

Duterte handed the two soldiers over to the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command at Camp Panacan.

Anover and Alavaro, both of the Army’s re-engineered special operations team, were seized at a checkpoint in Barangay Casoon on Sept. 30.

The non-government organization Exodus for Justice and Peace facilitated the release of the soldiers upon the request of their families.

The soldiers will undergo medical examination and debriefing before they are sent back to their units.
