Michelle Zoleta - The Philippine Star

GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon, Philippines – A mayoralty candidate in this town was wounded in an attack by unidentified men on Friday afternoon.

Eliseo Ruzol, 58, who is seeking to replace his brother Mayor Leovigildo Ruzol in the 2016 elections, was in a Nissan sport utility vehicle along with three other companions when they were waylaid in Barangay Catablingan.

Ruzol and his companions were on their way to the town proper from a political gathering in Barangay Magsikap, according to town police chief Senior Inspector Wilmor Abang.

Two men shot at Ruzol’s vehicle as they were approaching a mountainous area.

The victim, who was driving the vehicle, was hit in the knee. He was brought to the Claro M. Recto Hospital in Infanta town for treatment.

Police have yet to determine if the attack was politically motivated. – With Ed Amoroso
