Sulu vice governor challenges Hataman in ARMM gubernatorial race

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Mujiv Hataman is not running unopposed in the gubernatorial race in 2016.

Sulu Vice Gov. Abdusakur Tan filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the position on Thursday.

Tan filed his COC, through his proxy, Jojo Tan, at the regional office of the Commission on Elections in Zamboanga City, and announced this in Sulu.

Tan filed his COC at almost the same time that Hataman filed his, also through his proxy Norombai Utto.

Both Hataman and Tan are members of the ruling Liberal Party (LP).

President Aquino earlier told Hataman to seek reelection in ARMM and assured him that his bid would be a sacrifice to push for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

Tan expressed belief that he is still a candidate of the LP, although he has no certificate of nomination and acceptance of the party leadership.

He gave assurance to support the presidential bid of former interior and local government secretary Manuel Roxas.
