BATANGAS, Philippines – A 53-year-old barangay councilman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Taysan town on Friday night.
Felipe Sarmiento of Barangay Dagatan was standing in front of his lottery outlet when he was shot at around 6:45 p.m., according to Taysan police chief Senior Inspector Randy Oliquino.
Sarmiento died at the scene from two gunshot wounds in the head.
Witnesses said the assailants fled on a motorcycle.
Police have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
