PhlPost issues stamps in honor of Malvar

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) has issued stamps to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of former general Miguel Malvar.

PhlPost issued 104,000 copies of the P10 stamp on Sept. 27.

PhlPost philatelic service director Lenny San Diego said the stamps were issued upon the request of local officials of Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

“Malvar was born and grew up in Sto. Tomas, Batangas,” San Diego said.

Malvar was the last Filipino general to surrender during the Philippine-American War. He was also considered as the first unofficial president of the First Philippine Republic.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1865 to Maximo Malvar and Tiburcia Carpio. He died of liver complications on Oct. 13, 1911.
