MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested two men for attempting to sell 125 kilos of ammonium nitrate and detonating cord believed intended for use in blast fishing in Palawan on Monday.
Investigators have yet to determine the source of the ammonium nitrate seized from Abdulrasid Abubakar, 38, and Jeby Tamayo, 24, according to provincial police director Senior Superintendent Benjamin Acorda Jr.
Aside from the five sacks of ammonium nitrate and detonating cord, the suspects yielded 400 blasting caps, a motor banca, and P75,000 marked money used in the sting conducted in Roxas town.
Acorda said it would be disastrous if the chemicals landed in the hands of terrorists.
