More Mindanao hotels, resorts declared labor law compliant

MANILA, Philippines - More foreign and local tourists are expected to flock to Mindanao after a number of local resorts and hotels have been found complying with labor laws, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said two high-end establishments in Zamboanga del Norte have been added to the region’s list of quality tourist destinations.

The DOLE awarded certificates of compliance to Dakak Park Beach Resort in Barangay Taguilon, Dapitan City, and Ariana Hotel in Minaog, Dipolog City, after they passed the general labor and occupational safety and health standards assessment.

The hotel managements gave the assurance that they would adhere with the standards set by the agency.

Baldoz said two establishments are complying with the two-tiered wage system that includes granting performance or productivity-based incentives to their workers.

The two-tiered wage system involves the payment of minimum wage and a voluntary productivity-based pay scheme.

Baldoz assured the two establishments that the agency is always ready to provide them assistance.
