Korean couple slain at home

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A Korean couple were shot dead by still unidentified assailants at their home in Amadeo, Cavite on Friday, police reported yesterday.

Lee Yong Kil and Meiyu Piao were found by Michelle Pupa, 33, at around 4 p.m. at their apartment in Barangay Banay-Banay, according to Cavite police director Senior Superintendent Eliseo Cruz.

Pupa said that in 2013, Lee attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a hospital near his house. He was in charge of the construction, funded by a church group from South Korea.

She told the police that sometime in July 2015, the victim had a misunderstanding with his workers in Dasmariñas, Cavite after the workers broke the window of his car and forcibly took a steel cutting machine.

Security guard Virgilio Tuballa told probers that he heard five gunshots from the direction of the victim’s house at Patio Buenadia on Saturday at around 11 p.m.

Probers said the personal belongings of the victims were intact and there was no sign of robbery.

A Scene of the Crime Operations team led by Chief Inspector Elizalde Odi recovered eight spent 9mm cartridges and two deformed slugs and several fragments inside the victims’ house.

The cartridges and slugs were subjected to ballistics examination and forensic tests, police said.
