Fallen trees kill 1, hurt 2
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A truck driver died while two others were injured after they were hit by fallen trees amid a bad weather condition here on Friday.
The local coast guard station prevented vessels from sailing due to rough sea conditions spawned by an intertropical convergence zone.
City disaster risk reduction and management officer Elmeir Apolinario said Dexter Basa, 46, was pinned under a tree as he was driving in Barangay Sinunuc.
Apolinario said another tree fell and hit a house in Barangay Pasonanca, injuring two residents.
Rains since Thursday night submerged several areas in at least 10 villages in the city proper.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard and the CDRRMO were assisting the villagers.
