ARMM hires 300 new teachers

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – The education department in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) hired an additional 300 licensed teachers to address illiteracy in the region.

John Magno, regional secretary of the  ARMM-Department of Education, yesterday said that Gov. Mujiv Hataman signed the appointments of the new teachers early this week.

“These new teachers are all licensed and have pledged not to choose areas of assignment. They committed to work in far-flung areas,” Magno said.

Last year, the local DepEd office hired 2,000 teachers, whose assignments were based on staffing patterns approved by the Department of Budget and Management and the Civil Service Commission.

Magno said the 300 new teachers would be deployed in Maguindanao, Basilan and Sulu.
