Vendors warned on use of pig’s blood on fish

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte yesterday warned fish vendors against using pig’s blood to make fish, particularly tuna, look fresh.

Duterte lambasted the vendors for duping the consumers by soaking the fish in pig’s blood before selling them.

The warning came after the City Veterinarian’s Office caught  four  vendors from Matina Aplaya, Puan and Toril public markets soaking the tunas they were selling in pig’s blood.

Duterte said the vendors would be charged with estafa as provided under the Revised Penal Code.

He said the use of pig’s blood is offensive to other religious groups, particularly the Muslims.

The mayor said such a practice also violates the sanitation law.
