50-M marijuana plants destroyed in Ilocos

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union, Philippines – At least P50 million worth of marijuana plants were uprooted by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and police and Navy personnel in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur yesterday.

Adrian Alvariño, PDEA regional director, said the marijuana plants were discovered in 12 plantation sites with a total land area of 2,852 square meters. 

Alvariño said 23,700 fully grown marijuana plants and 8,100 seedlings were burned. 

“The operating teams walked for six hours from San Gabriel, La Union going to the plantation site,” he said.
