Floods hit Zambo villages

Roel Pareño - Philstar.com

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - At least six villages went underwater due to flooding after hours of heavy rains that hit this city Tuesday night, according to disaster official.

Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), said more than 100 families were also affected and forced to evacuate to the higher grounds.

He said a house made of light materials was also swept by the flood in one of the villages affected.

Apolinario said no one was reported hurt or injured in the incident.

The disaster official was also baffled by the rise of the water despite reports from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) that rainfall in the city was described to be moderate only.

“It could be the effect of the climate change,” Apolinario said.
