Ex-cop, drug suspect killed in Ecija shootings
CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines – A former police officer and a suspected drug traficker were killed in separate shootings in Sta. Rosa and San Antonio towns in Nueva Ecija last Friday.
The fatalities were identified as former police officer Bongbong Abiog, 41, and Gerardo Villaluz, alias Bonsi, 38.
Abiog died at the scene from gunshot wounds in the head while Villaluz died while being taken to a hospital, according to provincial police director Senior Superintendent Manuel Cornel.
Case investigator Police Officer 2 Niño Callueng said Abiog and his wife were on their way home on a motorcycle when they were shot by two motorcycle-riding men along the Sta. Rosa-Dingalan Road in Barangay Soledad at past 3 p.m.
The assailants spared Abiog’s wife and fled toward Barangay Liwayway.
Investigators recovered three bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Meanhile, Villaluz was standing in front of his store in Barangay San Franciso, San Antonio town when two motocycle-ridng men pulled over at around 6 p.m.
One of the men get off the motorcycle, approached Villaluz and shot him, according to case investigator Police Officer 3 Jayson Garcia.
Villaluz’s wife rushed him to the San Antonio District Hospital but he did not make it.
Garcia said Villaluz was included in the police drug list.
