SCTEX bridge now open to traffic

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines – The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has completed the repair of a bridge of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) in Porac, Pampanga.

The bridge, located along the Pasig-Potrero River, was opened to all types of vehicles at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

“The completion of the SCTEX bridge allows motorists to use both the west and east bound lanes for a more convenient and safer travel,” BCDA president and chief executive officer Arnel Paciano Casanova said.

The rehabilitation, which cost P71.6 million, included slope protection and other repair works at the base of the bridge.

The bridge sustained damage after strong water currents spawned by Typhoon Maring in August 2013 eroded the soil that held its base.

In September 2013, the BCDA and the Department of Public Works and Highways built a temporary bridge to make the Clark-Porac segment of the SCTEX accessible to motorists.

In June this year, the BCDA opened the south bound lane of the bridge. – With Ric Sapnu
