MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off Sarangani town in Davao Occidental yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake occurred at 9:18 a.m. with no reported intensities, Phivolcs said.
The epicenter of the quake was 155 kilometers southwest of Sarangani. It had a depth of 312 kms and was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs allayed fears of a tsunami, but said aftershocks were expected from the quake.
The agency also recorded quakes with magnitudes of 2 to 3.5 in Batanes, Batangas and Surigao del Norte yesterday.
