3 die,1 hurt as truck rams tree

ILOILO CITY, Philippines  – Three persons died while another was injured when their truck hit a coconut tree in San Dionisio, Iloilo on Saturday.

Truck driver Eugene Bandojo Jr., 45, of Estancia town; and fish vendors Melody Yu, 35, and Junelie Salvador, 34, died at the scene from head injuries, according to Chief Inspector Efren Niembra, chief of the San Dionisio police.

The victims’ companion, Aidy Bataga, was taken to the Sara District Hospital in nearby Sara town for treatment.

Reports said the victims were on their way to Estancia when they figured in an accident along the highway in Barangay Cudionan.

Witnesses said they saw the truck swerving before it hit the coconut tree.

Investigators said the driver could have lost control of the wheel.
