2 holdup suspects killed in QC shootout

Two suspected holdup suspects were killed in a shootout with policemen in Quezon City.

MANILA, Philippines - Police killed on Friday early dawn two suspected robbers during a shootout in Quezon City.

Quezon City Police District director, Chief Superintendent Edgardo Gonzales Tinio, said the two slain motorcycle-riding men engaged policemen who were were manning a checkpoint in the city. 

Report showed that at around 12:45 a.m., traffic policemen were at a checkpoint in front of San Lorenzo Hospital in Barangay Lagro when they spotted the suspects.

Police flagged down the suspects for verification, but instead of stopping, they sped-off which prompted the policemen to chase them. 

The back rider opened fire at  the law enforcers, resulting in an exchange that killed two unidentified suspects.

Police recovered from the suspects a cal.38 revolver and loaded, home-made cal. 367.

Before the shootout, two men on motorcycle held up Kimberly Azano around 12 a.m.  along Timog Avenue corner Quezon Avenue.

Azano reported the incident to the nearby police precinct which flashed an alarm to other police units in the city.

Later, Azano positively identified the suspects as the same persons who robbed her of her belongings.

Investigation also showed that the motorcycle used by the suspects was also reported  stolen from a certain Rechie Alar last August 16 near the Sugar Regulatory Board compound in North Avenue, Quezon City.
