Pangasinan cop cited for honesty

Obrero

URDANETA CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines  – A member of this city’s police station was commended yesterday for returning a wallet containing P15,000 cash and dollar bills that he found as he was patrolling near a university here.

Senior Police Officer 3 Wilfredo Obrero, 50, received the commendation during yesterday’s flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds.

City police chief Superintendent Jeff Fanged said the awarding of Obrero was timely as the police station was the sponsor of the flag-raising.

Obrero received a certificate of recognition from Mayor Amadeo Perez IV, Vice Mayor Franco Paolo del Prado and Councilor Bong Aduca.

Fanged gave him cash gift.

Obrero said he did not think of keeping the money to himself and immediately reported his find to their station.

The owner, taxi driver Modesto Penuliar, thanked the police officer.

“Obrero’s act shows there are still many honest policemen,” Fanged said.

He said that after The STAR featured in 2013 the honesty of two street children who returned a camera they found in an eatery, many Urdanetans, especially tricycle drivers, followed their examples.
