Abu bandit killed in Basilan clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A suspected Abu Sayyaf bandit was killed and two others were wounded in an encounter with government troops in Sumisip, Basilan yesterday.

The military said a soldier was also wounded during the clash in Barangay Kaumpamatsaken around 7 a.m.

Marine Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said Army troopers from the 4th Special Forces Battalion were on a combat mission when they encountered the bandits.  

The military launched pursuit operations against the bandits.
