ZAMBOANGA CITY - Combined police units arrested a female suspect involved in the kidnapping of an Australian national more than three years ago, during a raid in Trento, Agusan del Sur, according to official.
Senior Superintendent Celso Bael, officer-in-charge of Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office, identified the suspect as Edeliza Ulep alias “Gina Perez.”
Ulep was arrested by the combined anti-kidnapping police unit and local police of Trento Tuesday around 12:45 p.m. after being tracked down at Purok 7, Villa Street, Trento town.
Bael said Ulep has a standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping with ransom Australian national Richard Warren Rodwell on December 5, 2011.
Rodwell was abducted from his house in a subdivision in Ipil town, Zamboanga Sibugay by a kidnap for ransom syndicate group. He was released after 472 days by his captors in a fishing port in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur following payment of huge ransom.
According to Bael, Ulep was the ransom taker of Rodwell’s kidnappers.
The suspect was brought to Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office for proper documentation before she was turned over to the custody of the police Anti-Kidnapping Group.
