Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A suspected drug trafficker was killed while three members of the police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team were wounded when a grenade exploded in this city Monday night.

Ruth Andico-Mendoza reportedly pulled out a grenade when a team of police officers tried to arrest him in Barangay Pasonanca, according to Superintendent Ariel Huesca, chief of the city police public safety company.

The SWAT men responded when a standoff occurred between the suspect and members of the city police Station 7.

This reportedly prompted the suspect to pull the pin off the grenade.

The wounded SWAT members were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Recovered from the suspect were a rifle, a handgun and bullets.
