Dennis Carcamo - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — Around 40 families were rendered homeless Saturday after a fire hit a residential area in Parañaque City, destroying 27 houses.

No one reported hurt initially during the blaze.

Reports said that the fire started around 9 a.m. at Morales compound, Barangay Moonwalk, Parañaque inside the rented room of a certain Marilen Madela.

The flames quickly spread to nearby houses which were mostly made of wood and light materials.

Arson investigators are now looking at electrical overload as one of the causes of the fire.

The affected families have been temporarily sheltered at a covered basketball court in the area.
