4 slain in shootouts

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines  – Four men, including two suspected robbers, were killed in separate encounters with police officers in Cavite and Batangas Sunday.

The two suspects reportedly robbed a branch of a courier firm in Barangay Bucandala, Imus City, Cavite, at around 11:20 a.m., Senior Superintendent Jonnel Estomo, Cavite police director, said.

Instead of yielding, one suspect reportedly shot at responding police officers, triggering a shootout.

In Batangas, Donald Campano was shot dead by two assailants in Barangay San Pedro 2, Malvar at around 9 p.m.

Responding police officers exchanged fire with the two gunmen, killing one of them. Another suspect, identified as Jefferson Mendoza, was taken to Mercado Hospital in Tanauan City for treatment, said Batangas police director Senior Superintendent Omega Jireh Fidel.
