Carabao center eyes producing 2 M liters of milk
ANGELES CITY, Philippines – Marking its 22nd anniversary in the Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija, the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) has launched a campaign that would increase annual carabao milk production to at least two million liters by 2016.
“This is meant to scale up carabao-based enterprises among rural families in organized groups in the national impact zone (NIZ) in the province,” Arnel del Barrio, PCC acting executive director, said.
Del Barrio said the campaign seeks to harmonize the programs, strategies and activities of all stakeholders in the dairy industry including national and local government units, farmers and processors, business development and service providers and people’s organization.
The NIZ involves 54 organized groups raising 3,104 purebred murrah buffaloes, which produced around 520,000 liters of milk in 2014, he said.
The campaign was launched through a covenant signing among industry stakeholders.
Del Barrio said they aim to double the income of farmers, provide additional jobs and reduce malnutrition.
