Kennon Road one way during Holy Week
MANILA, Philippines - A one-way traffic scheme will be implemented along Kennon Road going to Baguio City from tomorrow until Friday, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced yesterday.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the scheme was meant to shorten travel time of tourists heading for the summer capital for Lent.
Singson said he ordered Edilberto Carabbacan, chief of the Cordillera-DPWH to implement a one-way traffic scheme starting from Camp 1 Toll Gate in Tuba, Benguet to the Camp 7 police station in Baguio City.
In consideration of residents living along Kennon Road, they will be given window hours – from 11 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. – to travel down the road on these dates. Special passes will be issued to vehicles of certified Kennon Road residents.
Billboards informing motorists of the one-way traffic scheme and the window hours were installed in strategic areas from the municipalities of Saytan and Rosario in La Union to Baguio City.
Flagmen will be assigned every 500 meters from Camp 1 to Camp 7 to inform motorists of the two-way traffic during the window hours. Flyers will also be distributed to motorists entering Camp 1.
The window hours indicated in the flyers is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The additional hour will give the last vehicle entering Camp 7 police station time to exit the toll gate at Camp 1.
