5 drown as boat sinks off Davao City

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Four children and their grandfather drowned when their boat capsized in the waters off this city Friday afternoon. 

The fatalities were identified as Carl Vincent Intod, 6; his siblings Moreen, 4, and Justine, 3; Bambi Oros, 3, and their grandfather, Antonio Chavez, 63, all of Muslim Village, NHA Bangkal in this city.

Four others – Ryza Jane Amado, 7;  Riza Joy Oros, 10; Kiesha Mata, 10, and Nasper Mata, 11, survived the incident that occurred near Barangay Punta Dumalag.

Reports said the victims were on their way home from a family outing on Seagull Beach in Punta Dumalag.

They were sailing near Matina Aplaya when seawater seeped into the front part of their boat until it capsized.

The survivors were rescued by a passing pumpboat.
