PNP: Robbery, theft in Metro Manila down

MANILA, Philippines - Robbery and theft cases in Metro Manila have gone down by an average of 25 percent during the previous week, a report by the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed.
A report from the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management said 310 incidents in Metro Manila were recorded from March 9 to March 15, lower compared with the 405 incidents recorded during the previous week (March 2 to March 8).
Manila Police District (MPD) recorded the highest decrease in serious crimes from 100 incidents on the previous week down to 64 incidents on the past week.
It also recorded a decrease in Ermita with only 13 incidents on the past week (March 9 to 15), compared to 23 incidents on the previous week.
MPD is followed by Quezon City Police District with a total of 108 incidents on the past week contrary to the 138 incidents last March 2 to March 8 2015.
Lagro-Fairview area noted a favorable assessment from 20 incidents on the previous week down to 12 incidents.
PNP officer in charge, Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina, said that the decreasing crime trend is a pay-off from the Oplan "Lambat-Sibat" drive.
"This is the result of the effective and efficient implementation of increased checkpoints, mobile and beat patrols, and intensified serving of arrest warrants, to include the deployment of police officers in densely populated areas including malls, train stations and terminals," Espina added.
From 793 incidents on June 16, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015, crimes against property gradually decrease every week, the PNP said.
