LGU, PNP execs top Ombudsman's list of cases

MANILA, Philippines - Officials of local government units (LGUs) and members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) topped the list of government agencies with the most number of cases filed before the Office of the Ombudsman in 2014.
Based on the data submitted by the Ombudsman’s Finance and Management Information Office, a total of 2,053 cases were filed against LGU officials while 1,258 cases were filed against PNP personnel.
However, there has been a decrease in the number of cases filed against LGU officials--from a high of 3,854 cases filed against LGU officials in 2011, only 2,053 cases were recorded in 2014.
There has also been a decline in the number of cases filed against the police from a high of 1,709 cases in 2011 to only 1,258 cases in 2014.
Appearing for the first time in the top 10 list are the Local Water Utilities Administration ranking 3rd with 484 cases, Department of Transportation and Communications at 5th with 103 cases and the Department of Public Works and Highways at 9th with 63 cases.
Completing the list are the Armed Forces of the Philippines (4th), Department of Education (6th), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (7th), Bureau of Customs (8th) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (10th).
