2 dead, 9 hurt in Pangasinan road mishap

MANGATAREM, Pangasinan, Philippines  – Two persons died while nine others were injured when a utility van collided with a mini-bus here Saturday.

Van passengers Dennis Espejo and Angelita Montes, both of Quezon City, were declared dead on arrival at the Mangatarem District Hospital.

Taken to the same hospital for treatment were their companions – Dave Capistrano, Philip Eric Ilagan, Jovelyn Macatunggay, Vivian Navardez, and Renato, Vanessa and RV Peter, all surnamed Abus.

Bus conductor Primo Celestino and van driver Ronald Gatpatan were also injured in the accident while bus driver Ronnil Valdez was unhurt.

Reports said the L-300 van (UJA-587) and the mini-bus were traveling in opposite directions along the Romulo Highway in Barangay Quetegan when they figured in an accident at around 4:40 a.m.

Guimaras mishap leaves 2 dead

Meanwhile, in Guimaras, two persons died while two others were injured when their truck slammed into a tree in San Lorenzo town shortly after midnight Saturday.

Romeo Rosales, 46, and Adjil Calabro, 22, died at the scene while Mark Lyndon Genoveña, 25, and truck driver Ruscoe Maquiling, 43, were taken to a hospital in Iloilo City for treatment, said Senior Inspector Raymond Cruz, town police chief.

Reports said the victims came from a drinking spree in Buenavista town and were on their way home when their truck (RJN-681) crashed into a tree in Barangay Tamburong. – With Jennifer Rendon
