LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Two graduating high school students were killed and two others were injured when they were hit by a van loaded with iron bars along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Anislag, Daraga, Albay on Wednesday, police said yesterday.

Rona Alcera and Lawrence Soriao, both 17, died at the scene while Christopher Villa Gomez, 18, and Lea Indaya, 17, whose left leg was pierced by a steel bar, were confined at the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital.

Daraga police chief Superintendent Joel Adan said the victims were waiting for a jeepney in front of the Anislag National High School when the accident occurred.

The driver of the van identified as Remegio Villagomiza, 59, escaped.

Witnesses said the van hit the students when the driver tried to overtake a car.
