House to probe Cagayan coed’s suicide over unpaid school fees
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – The House of Representatives will look into the case of a student of Cagayan State University (CSU) who reportedly committed suicide because she was unable to pay school fees.
Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares told The STAR that they would include the suicide of Rosanna Sanfuego in their investigation into the no-permit, no-examination policy of some schools.
Colmenares, who visited Ilagan City in Isabela for the National Chess Federation Championship, said the problem is not tuition, which is free, but ”exorbitant” school fees.
“Education is a right of every Filipinos. It is not something one cannot avail himself of without paying for it,” he said.
CSU president Romeo Quilang had raised doubts that Sanfuego committed suicide because she failed to pay school fees.
