CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Sixty-eight foreign delegates arrived in Cavite yesterday for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)Senior Officials’ Meeting.

The senior officials, mostly deputy finance ministers from Australia, Japan, Canada, Malaysia, World Bank and other countries arrived at the Taal Vista and Summit Ridge hotels at around 8 a.m., according to Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson for the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police office.

Gaoiran said the other delegates were expected to arrive tomorrow and the next day.

More than 3,500 military and police personnel were deployed in the area to secure the APEC event slated from March 3 to 6, said Chief Superintendent Edwin Erni, regional police officer-in-charge.

Erni urged the public to provide authorities any information that might affect the security of the event, although no threat has been monitored so far.

Traffic in the city remained normal and no rerouting of vehicles was needed as of yesterday.

Erni said they don’t want any untoward incident to happen during the APEC event.
