Noy declares La Union holiday

Jun Elias - The Philippine Star

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines – President Aquino declared March 2 a special non-working day in La Union, which is observing its 165th foundation anniversary.

In an order signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Aquino said the holiday would give people a chance to enjoy and participate in the celebration.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of La Union be given the full opportunity to celebrate this milestone in their province’s history,” the order said.

The celebration will be opened by Gov. Manuel Ortega’s delivery of his state of the province address at the capitol grounds. It will be highlighted with the coronation of the “Mutia ti La Union 2015.”

La Union was declared a province on March 2, 1850 through a decree signed by then Spanish governor general Antonio Maria Blanco.
