2 Tanauan execs cited for 2014 performance
TANAUAN CITY, Batangas, Philippines – For two years in a row, the treasurer and assessor of this city have been cited by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) for their exemplary performance.
The BLGF, an agency under the Department of Finance (DOF) that supervises and monitors the revenue operations of local government units (LGUs), commended city treasurer Virginia Lopez and the acting assessor Catalina Magadia for surpassing the annual targets of their respective departments.
The citation was made during the 2015 planning and target-setting conference of Regions 4A and 4B treasury and assessment officials held in Coron, Palawan from Jan. 26 to 30.
With a revenue collection target of P855 million last year, the city treasurer’s office was able to collect more than P944 million in real property, business and income taxes.
The assessor’s office, on the other hand, posted a 120.19-percent achievement in its total taxable assessed valuation target for the same year.
Registering an assessed valuation of P20 billion by yearend, Tanauan City surpasses its P16-billion target, which is one of the highest in the entire Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regions.
In a separate citation, the BLGF recognized the city treasurer’s office for increasing the city’s real property tax base.
Mayor Antonio Halili lauded Magadia and Lopez for their achievement.
In the LGU fiscal sustainability scorecard released by the BLGF last December, Tanauan City got an “excellent” mark and ranked fourth among the country’s 121 cities. The rating was based on the city’s performance in revenue generation, expenditure management and reportorial compliance.
