Power outage to hit Bataan, Tarlac

MANILA, Philippines - There will be  power outages in Bataan and Tarlac tomorrow,  the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced yesterday.

The shutdown covers the Peninsula Electric Cooperative, to give way to the replacement of insulators along the Orion tap-PNPP69kV line segment.

“Normal operations will immediately resume after work completion, Customers and the general public are advised to take the necessary preparations and precautions,” the NGCP said.

Lorenz Vidal, NGCP Central Luzon communications officer, said Bamban and Capas towns in Tarlac would also experience a power outage from 8 a.m. till noon tomorrow.

In Davao, the 210-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Misamis Oriental will undergo a 26-day maintenance shutdown starting today.

In an advisory on Tuesday, the STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) said  Unit 1 of the power plant would be shut down until March 2 and Unit 2 starting tomorrow until March 16. 

SPI power plant manager Carsten Evers said the units would be on planned outage during the period to allow unit inspection and maintenance activities.

“These maintenance activities are part of the company’s commitment to sustain quality customer service by way of ensuring that the power plant is able to optimize its long-term operations and produce the power needed to sustain Mindanao’s growth and development” Evers said.

He said the maintenance schedule has been planned and coordinated with the National Power Corp. and the NGCP.  – Edith Regalado, Gerry Lee Gorit, Ding Cervantes
