Fire hits Jaen church

Manny Galvez - The Philippine Star

JAEN, Nueva Ecija, Philippines – At least P350,000 worth of property went up in smoke in a fire that destroyed a church here at dawn Friday.

No one was injured or killed in the blaze that gutted the Blessed Hope Church of the United Methodist Church in Barangay G.E. Antonino, the Bureau of Fire Protection said.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Rufino Castro of Jaen Fire Station said the fire started at a canteen near the church at around 4:20 a. m.

Castro said the blaze, which was sparked by an electric fan that overheated, destroyed the kitchen, computer room and the roof of the church.

Firefighters led by Fire Officer 3 Arthur de Lara and FO2 Daisy Cortez rushed to the scene, as well as their counterparts from nearby towns of San Isidro and San Leonardo fire stations.
