Cop who killed chief, deputy in grenade attack surrenders
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A policeman suspected of killing a municipal police chief and his deputy in a grenade attack at a police station in Bukidnon has surrendered to authorities.
Police Officer 1 Gorospe Cairo surrendered to Cabanglasan Mayor Reynante Inocando and Vice Mayor Ernie Devivar around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Bukidnon police information officer Jiselle Ester Lou Longakit said yesterday.
Cairo, 34, a resident of Barangay Balila in Lantapan town, hurled the grenades at the police station Monday night, killing Senior Inspector Crisanto Molina, Kabanglasan police station chief, and his deputy, Inspector Dexter Garcia, who were having dinner at the pantry.
Mariel Taduay, 15, was also wounded in the attack.
Longakit said Cairo surrendered after his father, Gonzalo, negotiated with policemen led by Superintendents Salvador Radam and Ramil Waper.
She said the suspect, who was detained at the Malaybalay police station, would be charged with frustrated murder and two counts of murder.
