Guns, bombs seized from NPA rebels in Agusan encounter

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Government troops seized assorted firearms, improvised explosive devices and communication equipment following an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Agusan del Norte on Wednesday.

The firefight occurred in Barangay Rojales in Carmen town at 11:30 a.m., according to a report from Agusan del Norte police office to Police Regional Office-13 here.

The report said government operatives engaged some 15 NPA guerrillas in a 15-minute gunfight.

There was no reported casualty on the government side.

Among those seized were M16 and AK-47 rifles, a grenade launcher, rifle grenades, handheld radios and mobile phones.

An NPA rebel was also captured and brought to the PRO-13 office for questioning.
