2 dead, 11 hurt as condo floor in BGC collapses

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED as of 2:14 p.m.) - Two construction workers died and 11 others were injured after a floor of a condominium building under construction at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City collapsed  Wednesday morning.

Taguig Police chief Senior Superintendent Arthur Felix Asis said the incident happened at about 8:10 a.m.

The fatalities were identified as Renato dela Cruz and Ruben Raqraquiam.

Taguig Fire Marshal Juanito Maslang said Dela Cruz was working on the upper ground floor when it collapsed. Dela Cruz died on arrival at the St. Lukes Global while Racraquiam's body was retrieved from the rubble at around 1:35 p.m.

Maslang said Racraquiam was pinned down by concrete slabs.

The injured workers were identified as Sandy Vargas, Jaymar Carberta, Regan Labmutin, Larry Magguray, Wendil Behim, Aldrin Gahuman, Roberto Lorca, Darwin Avara, Bernard Tugade, Jonathan Agoso, Delinger Abara.

Search and rescue operations at the construction were terminated at around 1:45 p.m.

The condominium building is located at the corner of 5th Avenue and 28th Street.

Asis said the injured workers suffered abrasions and fractures on their hands. They were rushed to the nearby St. Luke's Global hospital for emergency treatment.

"Medyo basa pa yung semento nung nag collapse yung sahig," said Asis.

Initial reports said the foam board supporting the floor gave way causing the collapse.
