Flood hits Capiz villages

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Several villages in Capiz have been submerged in floodwaters brought by torrential rains since Thursday.

The provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) said over the weekend that some 47 villages in four towns were affected by flood.

Officials said several rice fields, particularly in Mambusao town, were turned into rivers.

PDRRMC officer Espiridion Pelaez said 15 villages in Sigma, seven in Panit-an and five in Maayon were flooded and not passable to light vehicles.

Meanwhile, a landslide that occurred in Barangay Carataya, Cuartero town last Friday affected the flow of vehicles going to four villages.

No one was reported injured or killed in the incident.
