Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Three siblings died in a fire that razed their house in Buguey, Cagayan late last week.

Ashley Umukit, 10, and her brothers Elvin Jr., 3 and Marco, 2, were asleep at their home in Barangay San Lorenzo when the fire broke out, said Senior Inspector Saturnino Soriano, town police chief.

The children were on their own as their parents, Elvin Sr. and Jocelyn, were at a relative’s wake in the same village.

Arson probers said the blaze could have been sparked by a piece of firewood left burning at the family’s kitchen.
