Mayor nabs cop for firing gun

BATANGAS, Philippines – Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili arrested a police officer for allegedly firing a gun during a fiesta Saturday night.

Halili disarmed Police Officer 2 Darius Canovas in Barangay Balele at past 7 p.m.

Reports said Halili and his convoy were passing through the village when they were slowed down by the procession.

When the procession reached Canovas’ house, the police officer reportedly fired a gun, alarming Halili’s security escorts.

“The mayor’s escorts thought they were being ambushed,” said Tanauan public information officer Gerard Laresma.

Canovas, a close-in security of Lipa City Mayor Maynard Sabili, was brought to the Tanauan police station for investigation.
