More than 25,000 families affected by Amang
MANILA, Philippines - More than 100,000 persons or 25,201 families were affected by Tropical Storm Amang in three regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said yesterday.
The NDRRMC said a total of 114,591 persons or 20,979 families in Bicol region, Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas were evacuated, but only 105 families or 420 persons are still in two evacuation centers.
The death toll from Amang remained at two. They are Kristell Mae Padasas, 26, the volunteer who was hit by a sound box that fell due to strong winds before Pope Francis’ mass in Tacloban City and Domingo Tablate, 59, of Catanduanes, a victim of drowning.
Damage to agriculture in Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar was estimated at P30.34 million while 538 houses were damaged.
The NDRRMC said flooding in Eastern Visayas has subsided.
