3 kids die in Laguna fire

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Philippines – Three children died in a fire that started in their room in Barangay Halang here Friday afternoon.

Kurth Andrew, 5;  Justine Maru, 4; and Kyla Jane, 2, all surnamed Lamsen, were trapped in their house in Villa Remedios, said city fire marshal Chief Inspector Edwin Vargas.

Vargas said the children apparently died of suffocation. He said the blaze started in the victims’ room at around 1:45 p.m.

Probers said the children might have played with matches and candles when their mother left them to place a bet at a nearby lotto outlet.

When the mother returned, she found the house filled with smoke and her children dead.

Vargas said the flames did not spread to other houses. He said only the children’s room was destroyed in the blaze.
