Jun Elias - The Philippine Star

SUDIPEN, La Union, Philippines – Five persons were arrested here for allegedly tricking a retired government employee into giving them P400,000 in cash and jewelry in Candon City, Ilocos Sur Sunday.

Quirino Domingo, 64; Lolita Jenese, 58; Rowena Jenese, 41; Racquel dela Cruz, 36, and Glorie May Rimando, 24, were identified by the victim, Delia Dauz, 74, as the persons who convinced her to withdraw her money from a bank, said Inspector Alfredo Padilla, town’s police chief.

Investigations showed that after taking the money, the suspects took the victim for a ride in a van.

Dauz said she came to her senses when the suspects dropped her off in this town. She took a mini-bus and asked the driver to go after the van.

A passenger called up the Sudipen police station whose members set up a checkpoint and apprehended the suspects.

Police said the suspects have been victimizing elderly residents in La Union and Ilocos Sur.
