North Cotabato bomb try foiled

John Unson - The Philippine Star

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – A farmer prevented an attempt by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) to set off a roadside bomb in Pikit, North Cotabato Saturday.

The farmer, whose identity was withheld for security reasons, saw electrical wires dangling from a box containing the improvised explosive device (IED) along Datu Piang street. He reported the matter to the nearby headquarters of the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion.

Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, spokesperson for the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, thanked the farmer for his vigilance.

Reports from the military and the police said the bomb was left by two motorcycle-riding men.

Villagers expressed belief the BIFF was behind the bomb try in retaliation for the military offensives last week.
