8 hurt as bus rams MRT concrete post
MANILA, Philippines - Eight people were hurt after a passenger bus rammed a concrete post of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) near the Guadalupe station along EDSA on Tuesday night.
The Road Emergency unit of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) identified three of injured passengers as Rose Ann Ablaza, 23; Jose Gimoro, 58; and Allen Diamante, 33.
Also injured were the driver and conductor of the Roval Transport bus involved in the accident.
A responding MMDA emergency rescue unit rushed the victims to the nearby Ospital ng Makati for treatment.
Initial investigation showed that the bus (UVF-128) was cruising towards Quezon City when it slammed into the MRT concrete post at about 6 p.m.
The impact of the crash caused the windshield of the bus to shatter and pinned the bus driver, later identified as Valentine Docdocil.
According to the MMDA Rescue, Docdocil had to be carefully extracted from the wrecked bus.
The MMDA said the driver claimed that the bus lost brakes before slamming into the concrete post.
