Illegal logs seized in Ilocos

Ariel Paolo Tejada - The Philippine Star

LAOAG CITY, Philippines – Authorities seized 82 narra flitches believed abandoned by illegal loggers at a village in Solsona town Monday afternoon.

Officials from the local environment office said the logs, found in Barangay Santa Ana, were estimated to be worth at least P130,000.

Town police chief Senior Inspector Leonardo Tolentino said an informant led police officers to the contraband.

Tolentino said investigators have yet to identify the owner of the logs.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jonathan de Lara condemned the alleged illegal logging activities in the town. “I will seek a legal opinion for the temporary closure and non-issuance of business permits to furniture shops,” De Lara said.

There are at least seven furniture shops in Barangay Santa Ana.
