Ilocos Norte councilor gunned down

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A councilor of an Ilocos Norte town was shot dead along the national highway in Barangay Bangsarit Friday night.

Crisanto Albano, who sat in the Bacarra town council after he was elected president of the Association of Barangay Councils local chapter, was declared dead on arrival at the Governor Roque Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital in Laoag City. He was elected as a councilman of Barangay Pasngal in 2013.

Albano suffered gunshot wounds from a caliber .45 pistol in the armpit and left hand. 

The victim was in a Mitsubishi Montero with his business partner, Marites Lim, two teenagers and a seven-year-old when they were ambushed.

Lim and the two teenagers suffered gunshot wounds while the seven-year-old was unhurt. The wounded were brought to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City.

Ilocos Norte police chief Senior Superintendent Sterling Blanco said they are still investigating the shooting.
